A National Guardsman has died in a crash involving an icy road in South County.
The Rhode Island State Police says a pickup truck driven by Richard Winkelman on Route 102 in Exeter lost control and crashed into a rock and tree Wednesday morning.
Winkelman was pronounced dead at Kent Hospital.
The Rhode Island National Guard has confirmed Winkelman was a member who was assigned to the 56th Troop Command.
The accident remains under investigation.
