The Rhode Island Senate confirmed Peter Alviti Jr. to continue running the state Department of Transportation on Tuesday.
Alviti, who became the director in 2015, is the longest-serving Cabinet member.
The Senate's vote yesterday was 35-to-1.
The lone dissenter, Providence Senator Sam Bell, took aim at RIDOT. The Senator says Alviti should have stopped the contractor of the 6-10 Connector project from dumping contaminated fill.
Alviti's reappointment was opposed by environmental groups who called for a shift away from automobile travel at a time when the Ocean State is trying to reduce greenhouse gases.
