A strike has been averted for bus drivers in the Providence Public School District.
Teamsters Local 251 members have ratified a four-year contract with First Student, which both sides agree will make the drivers the highest-paid in the region.
The agreement increases the wage to up to 37 dollars an hour by June of 2026.
The agreement came very late Tuesday night. Officials say the agreement will pay drivers 37 dollars an hour by the end of the deal in 2026.
The four year deal is retroactive to last June.
