Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins is unveiling a plan to reopen the Budlong Pool off Reservoir Avenue.
The city pool, which opened in 1940, was known as one of the largest in the U.S. before it was closed at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Hopkins wants to replace the existing Olympic-size pool with a new, smaller version and have it ready for next summer.
The mayor says the plan would be to open the pool by 2024. The mayor says there will be no bandaid approach- but a complete overhaul.
As part of the plan some 350 thousand dollars in Pandemic Relief monies will be devoted the projected. The mayor will ask the city council for an ordiance to make that happen in order for the design work to begin.
The Mayor says he believes the total cost of the project will come in at about 3 and a half million dollars.
