The city of Providence is suing social media companies.
The suit was filed in federal court in Rhode Island on Friday against Meta, the parent of Facebook, as well as Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and others.
WPRI-TV reports the city is requesting financial compensation for bearing the cost of the increased need for youth mental health services, allegedly caused by the addictive nature of the sites.
Meantime, the companies say protection of kids is always a concern.
No schedule for the suit to be heard has been announced.
