A Providence man who lost an eye during the riot in the capital city a week after the murder of George Floyd is filing a federal lawsuit.
Eduardo Santos alleges that excessive force was used against him as he was observing the riot with his wife on June 2nd, 2020.
While watching the events unfold at Kennedy Plaza, Santos says he yelled at police to stop beating a suspect, when officer Sean Comella fired a less-lethal projectile at him.
Comella thought Santos had thrown a glass bottle his way, but that was not the case.
Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha cleared Comella of any wrongdoing last October.
