Fine But No Jail Time For Former DOT Supervisor

The former project supervisor for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation Route 6-10 Connector construction site in Providence is avoiding federal prison.

The Justice Department says Dennis Ferreira was sentenced to one year of probation and ordered to pay a fine of 40-thousand dollars.

He was charged with making a false statement in connection with a federally-funded highway project.

Prosecutors say Ferreira was involved in the dumping of contaminated fill at the site.

The lead contractor, Barletta Heavy Construction of Canton, Massachusetts, had to pay a fine of a half-million dollars.
