India Park To Host Independence Celebration Sunday

The Providence Mayor Brett Smiley is announcing a big lineup for the annual Independence Day Celebration.

It is set for India Point Park Sunday at 6PM.

"I am excited to welcome everyone to our annual Fourth of July Celebration in our beautiful India Point Park,” said Mayor Brett Smiley. “We will be offering exciting musical performances, our signature fireworks show, and a family-friendly atmosphere that everyone can safely enjoy.”

The event is free and open to the public and will feature Caribbean musician Becky Bass. Visitors can also enjoy foods from the region and locally as there will be 13 local food vendors participating as well.

Because of the huge event- the mayor is also announcing a series of traffic detours:

I-195E Closures

Exit 1A (India Street/Gano Street) closes at 4PM and reopens between 10pm and 11pm

PVD STREET CLOSURES:

India Street closed after 8:00am from Newport Ferry Landing to the I-195 off-ramp.

Exit 1A (India Street/Gano Street) off I-195 East will be closed from 3:00pm to 11:00pm

Customers of the Hilton Garden Inn and Narragansett Beerhall will be allowed to enter from Gano Street

No stopping will be allowed on Route 95 or Route 195

The Mayor's office and various city agencies have been working together to ensure the event is both fun and safe. The mayor also says that bags will be searched randomly to ensure safety.

Skateboards, open flames and grilling will be prohibited at the park. And, the mayor also says you should be patient when leaving the fireworks Sunday night. It will be crowded.

The 2023 Independence Day celebration is made possible with support from the City of Providence and the Providence Tourism Council.
