Amo Sworn In- Delivers First House Speech As Member Of Commerce

Rhode Island Congressman Gabe Amo was sworn into office on Monday.

Amo won a special election in November to serve out the remaining term of Representative David Cicilline, who resigned earlier this summer.

Amo, who previously served as a senior adviser to President Joe Biden, and served in the Obama Administration, was sworn in by House Speaker Mike Johnson. He is the first Black representative Rhode Island has sent to Washington, DC in the state's history.

In brief remarks on the House floor, Amo talked about the hopes that he had when he and his parents had when they came to this country. And, how he has the same hopes for all Rhode Islanders.

His first big vote is likely to be later today in a series of bills designed to keep the government running through the end of the week.
