State Representative Joseph McNamara has announced he is stepping down as Rhode Island's Democratic Party Chair.
McNamara, who represents the Warwick and Cranston area through District 19, says his commitment to education issues is taking priority.
He cited his work on Speaker Joseph Shekarchi's leadership team and his recent appointment to the Education Commission of the States.
On Wednesday, McNamara endorsed Liz Beretta-Perik as his successor.
