URI Exceeds Freshmen Goals

The University of Rhode Island has exceeded its target for enrollment of first-year students this fall.

URI took in three thousand-277 freshmen, 22 above the target number according to a recent Board of Trustees meeting.

A breakdown shows just over 60 percent of the new class are women, with 31 percent the first in their family to attend college.

Infrastructure, however, remains a problem, with overcrowding, as more than a quarter of students live three to a room, where only two are meant to live. Another issue is tuition-free programs offered by universities in other states.
