US Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough was in Providence on Monday and said the physical and mental well-being of the nation's veterans was his top priority.
The latter needs are telling-of the approximately 12-hundred veteran visits made to the Providence VA, one-third involve mental health.
McDonough says veterans under care and receiving the benefits they deserve are less likely to die of suicide.
Improving VA facilities is also a priority, along with addressing healthcare worker burnout.
