Rhode Island has restarted the bidding process for its Medicaid managed care contract.
The first effort nearly two years ago was canceled, and as a result, the current contract with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island and Tufts Health Plan was extended until June 2025.
The state is seeking companies to cover nearly 320-thousand Medicaid recipients, which is more than one-third of Rhode Island's population.
That has increased the value of the contract to more than 15-point-5 billion dollars.
Governor Dan McKee says the new process will provide oversight of the vendors and improve services for residents.
