A 40-million-dollar bond resolution for Cranston Public Schools has been approved by the City Council.
The vote was 6-to-3 along party lines; the resolution supports a legislative act of the General Assembly, which would allow the city to seek approval from voters for the bond.
The funding would go toward the completion of the new Gladstone Elementary School, and purchase and renovation of the Apprenticeship Exploration charter school.
Council members were divided on an amendment that reduced the percentage of reimbursement from the state Department of Education.
If the measure passes with state lawmakers, a special election will take place on the bond issue next year.
