A deputy sheriff was hospitalized Monday, after an accidental shooting outside ACI's intake center.
Officials say the incident took place at around 8:30 a.m. when a deputy unintentionally fired his service weapon.
The colleague was taken to an area hospital with a leg wound, which was not considered life-threatening.
The officers were assigned to the Inmate Control and Custody Transportation Unit, which is tasked with bringing inmates to and from court.
No ACI detainees or employees were involved.
Rhode Island State Police detectives are investigating.
