Changes To Police Bill Of Rights Advances

Legislation to reform a Rhode Island law that protects police officers under investigation for misconduct has been approved.

The Senate Judiciary Committee upgraded the Law Enforcement Officers' Bill of Rights, also known as LEOBOR.

Among its details, the bill would expand the hearing panel from three to five members and allow suspensions without pay for up to 14 days.

The measure now goes before the full chamber. A similar measure is before the House.
