A state lawmaker has called on Rhode Island's Department of Transportation director to resign.
Representative Enrique Sanchez said RIDOT head Peter Alviti should step down, due to the ongoing issues surrounding the Washington Bridge closure.
The westbound span was closed last month after an engineer discovered the failure of steel anchor rods that hold the bridge's beams in position.
Sanchez charged Alviti showed a lack of professionalism, awareness, and transparency, regarding the bridge.
Alviti says he has no plans to resign.
Earlier this week, he warned decisions on the westbound span could include long-term repairs or even a full replacement.
