Brown University Hunger Strike Seeks Divestment Vote

Nineteen Brown University students are on a hunger strike, with an aim toward forcing a divestment vote.

The students are calling on the university Board of Fellow and Board of Trustees to divest 6-point-6-billion dollars in endowment from companies they charge profit from human rights abuses in Palestine.

The Gaza Health Ministry says nearly 27-thousand residents have died since the war with Israel began, and UNICEF figures show 70-percent of the fatalities are children.

Brown has divested itself of certain assets in the past, but university President Christina Paxson has said the endowment is not a political instrument.

The meetings are set to end Friday.
