The Rhode Island Department of Transportation estimates the closure of the westbound span of the Washington Bridge has so far cost the state approximately 860-thousand dollars.
The figure comes through cost of inspections and examinations of the bridge, along with testing, police coverage and traffic control.
The westbound portion was closed December 11th, after engineers discovered structural deficiencies.
RIDOT Director Peter Alviti says repairs could take months, and the potential exists for a complete replacement of the span.
Two-way traffic is operating on the eastbound side, which is not affected.
