All city buildings in Providence must become carbon neutral by 2040.
Mayor Brett Smiley will sign legislation to that effect into law today.
The Energy Efficiency and Carbon Neutral Goals for Municipal Buildings ordinance is designed to eliminate use of fossil fuels by that date.
The measure will propel a shift towards energy efficiency upgrades and encourages renewable energy infrastructure usage.
