Fed Report: More Illegal Drugs Transported Through Mail In State

Cases of illegal drugs being trafficked through the US mail system have increased in Rhode Island, according to federal figures.

The US Postal Inspection Service reported fluctuating arrest numbers, connected to narcotics, with 40 arrests in 2021, and 32 in 2022.

The matter drew attention when a Pawtucket mail carrier was kidnapped by five suspects in 2021, over a missing shipment of cocaine from Puerto Rico.

All five were arrested and charged with a conspiracy to traffic through the mail.
