Providence Man Pleads Guilty To SNAP Fraud, Firearm Possession

A Dominican national who is unlawfully in the United States has pleaded guilty to defrauding the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program of more than 213-thousand-dollars.

Forty-one-year-old Giomar Lopez Meireles also pleaded guilty to the unlawful possession of a firearm in Providence U.S. District Court.

Prosecutors say Lopez Meireles conspired with others to use stolen identities and social security numbers to submit fake applications for EBT cards.

He would then use the cards or sell them.

Lopez Meireles will be sentenced on September 4th.
