Bill Would Make Utility Bills "Transparent", Easier To Read

A Rhode Island State Lawmaker has filed a measure that gives some hope to weary residents trying to make sense out of their monthly electric bill.

Representative Alex Finkelman’s bill would require electric and gas companies to submit their billing forms to the State Public Utility Commission for review. Finkelman says hidden costs and fees have irritated rate payers for years.

“With the rising costs in our daily lives, it is essential that utility customers know exactly what they are being charged for each month,” said Representative Finkelman (D-Dist. 74, Jamestown, Middletown). “This legislation aims to prevent utility companies from hiding costs and fees, ensuring that consumers are not misled or overcharged.”

Senator Dawn Euer of Newport has filed a companion bill in the senate.
