First Heat Wave Of Season Through Rest Of Week

Temperatures are expected to hit the low 90's this week and the city of Providence says cooling centers are being activated throughout the area.

In addition to high temps, humidity will increase creating oppressive conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for inland Rhode Island. It will be cooler at the coast with temps there in the 70s and 80s.

Free bottled water will be available at all cooling centers and officials say only certified service animals with documentation will be allowed in the centers.

There will also be several area libraries available for residents who are looking for shelter from the heat.

In addition to the Cooling Centers, splash pads and water parks are opening two weeks ahead of schedule.
