State Senator Tiara Mack and State Rep Jose Batista say the temporary closing of the R-I Recycled Metals On Allens Avenue is a small victory but a significant one.
The lawmakers say it is a win for the health of city residents.
“Today is a great day for the neighborhoods and residents of South Providence. We thank everyone who has been involved in temporarily closing this dangerous and polluting business down for the foreseeable future and ensuring the health and safety of the community remains protected. This is a small victory, but also a significant one, for the public health and safety of Providence’s residents. We especially want to thank the numerous community organizations that have been fighting for this crucial outcome for over a decade,” said Senator Mack and Rep. Batista.
A special master is being appointed and the owners say within the next week they will have a new public safety plan in place after two fires in three months.
