Senator Sheldon Whitehouse says he will always be thankful for Biden's leadership, saying his legacy will be his grace, effectiveness, and patriotism. Whitehouse is following the president in endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.
Senator Jack Reed says Joe Biden is a remarkable president and a principled public servant and the decision to step down cements his legacy as a leader.
He says Americans looked to Joe Biden for decency, hope and guidance and he delivered.
Meantime, Rhode Island's governor is reacting to President Joe Biden's announcement that he will no longer seek re-election. McKee says Biden made a selfless and noble decision and his presidency will be remembered as one of the most impactful in history. The governor says he's grateful for Biden's lifetime of service, compassionate leadership and all he has done for the country.
