ACLU Against A Proposal In Cranston

The American Civil Liberties Union Rhode Island is opposed to a proposal regarding homeless shelters in Cranston.

It would ban temporary shelters on city property, violators would be fined and any shelter not removed within 24 hours could be taken down by the city.

The ACLU called the proposal "extraordinarily cruel."

Police said it's a safety issue citing open fires, propane tanks, used needles and syringes at homeless encampments.
