After 147 years, Saint Mary's Home for Children in North providence is closing. In announcing the decision yesterday, the board of directors cited financial challenges.
Earlier this year, a report from the state child advocate found abuse, neglect and understaffing.
The state Department of Children, Youth and Families removed all children from the residential treatment facility in June.
Outpatient and educational programs will be transferred to Tides Family Services in Pawtucket.
