Governor Dan McKee has signed a primary voting bill into law.
The measure allows unaffiliated voters to remain unaffiliated after participating in a party primary.
It also codifies an unaffiliated voter's right to take part in a primary of their choosing even if they previously voted in a different party's primary.
Secretary of State Gregg Amore says Rhode Islanders are proud to be independent, and this reduces the administrative burden on unaffiliated voters and election officials who process party changes.
