A 14-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was shot in Central Falls Thursday morning.
The shooting happened shortly before 9:00 a.m. on Earl Street and the girl was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital.
Police say the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
Central Falls Mayor Maria Rivera says she is heartbroken by the news that a young girl was shot in the city.
In a statement, the mayor says her heart aches for the girl and her family as they face this unimaginable pain, and she's praying for her recovery.
Rivera says as a mother and mayor, she's fought tirelessly to make the streets safer, but this is a reminder that there's still so much work to do.
