Mayor Brett Smiley says an agreement in principle has been reached between the city and the Rhode Island Department of Education regarding funding for the Providence Public Schools.
Smiley said the details of the agreement cannot be made public yet and RIDE plans to release more information on Friday.
During a Wednesday press conference, the mayor said he expects there will have to be some tax increases to fund the school spending and city government will tighten its belt as well.
