The Newport Police Department has joined an initiative that supports and encourages women in policing.
The National 30 x 30 Initiative aims to improve representation and involvement for women of all ranks at the department. In signing on to the initiative, Police Chief Ryan Duffy says the pledge means that Newport Police Department is actively working toward improving the representation and experiences of women officers in the agency.
More than 400 police agencies have signed the pledge and joined the initiative nationwide.
