School Superintendent On Leave As Investigations Begins

The Superintendent of Smithfield Public Schools is on paid administrative leave related to an investigation of an alleged hazing incident.

In a statement, Attorney Sean Clough says Dawn Bartz is on leave pending the outcome of a legal review regarding the administration's recent handling of a football matter.

The Jewish Alliance of Rhode Island alleges several football players locked a student in a bathroom and yelled antisemitic slurs at him.

Five Smithfield High football players were initially suspended, but they were later reinstated.
