Marijuana Debate Comes Down To Money And Social Impact

(Providence, RI)  --  Legislation calling for the legalization of marijuana is on hold after the House Judiciary Committee voted to hold it for further study.  Issues surrounding the measure were debated for four hours last night at the State House in Providence.  Proponents say it's time and that the state will only miss out on potential revenue from taxes that neighboring states that have legalized pot will see.  Opponents including the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association cite crimes associated with marijuana from break-ins and shootings to fires and the possibility that children could possibly obtain it.
