(Providence, RI) -- House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello is unveiling his plan to get rid of the car tax. The plan calls for the elimination to be completed by 2023 and use state money to reimburse localities for the 221-million dollars in revenues. Mattiello says if the first phase makes it into the new state budget taxpayers could see a savings in the new fiscal year that begins July 1st. The House Speaker didn't offer specifics on from where the money would come to pay for the car tax phase out but says "leaner government" and stronger economic growth will help.
