Tiverton Settles Lawsuit Over Search Of Third Grader

(Tiverton, RI)  --  Tiverton  is agreeing to pay 40-thousand dollars to the family of an eight-year  old girl after she was searched and arrested without cause.  The ACLU of Rhode Island announced the settlement of the federal lawsuit yesterday.  The  suit stemmed from an incident in 2014 when a student falsely told a  school bus attendant that the third grader and another student had  chemicals in their backpacks.  Police searched the backpacks and found nothing, but took them to the police station without contacting their parents.
