NIPPING IT IN THE BUD AT THE NATION'S CAPITOL

The House is taking aim at curbing sexual harassment and misconduct in Congress. A modest bill was passed today that requires special training for all representatives and staff members. The vote was unanimous. In a statement, Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan said there must be no tolerance for sexual harassment.

He noted that women must feel free to walk the halls of the Capitol without fear. Washington state Republican Cathy McMorris Rodgers said members of Congress must be held to a higher standard. McMorris Rodgers called herself deeply troubled by growing reports of sexual misconduct across the U.S.

Meantime, veteran Michigan Democrat John Conyers is facing pressure to resign – though not from his own caucus. Conyers has rejected a number of sexual harassment allegations against him. Conyers has, however, stepped down from his position as the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee.

Believe it or not, there has NEVER been sexual harassment in the workplace training for federal lawmakers. Talk about something LONG overdue,
