State Trucking Association Responds To Toll Plan

(Undated) -- A legal challenge is being promised in response to the state's new plan to make tractor-trailer operators pay tolls. Rhode Island will begin charging tolls on I-95 next week, near the Hopkinton-Richmond border and in Exeter. The president of the Rhode Island Trucking Association tells "The Providence Journal" it plans to sue the state for rolling out a plan that specifically targets truckers and not passenger cars. Rhode Island Department of Transportation director Peter Alviti Jr. says state law doesn't allow passenger cars to be tolled and adds it won't be necessary with the amount of money that will be collected from truck drivers.
