(Providence, RI) -- Providence Catholic Diocese Bishop Thomas Tobin is weighing in on what he calls the current firestorm in the hierarchy of the Catholic Church. Last week, former Vatican official Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano charged that Pope Francis knew for years about sexual misconduct by former Washington, DC Archbishop Theodore McCarrick, and did nothing about it. Vigano is calling for Francis to resign. In a letter posted on the Diocese of Providence website, Tobin says the allegations lodged by Vigano are substantive, and need to be investigated in a prompt and just manner.
