School Bus Strike:Providence Leaders Announce Deadline

(Providence, RI)  --  The city of Providence is announcing a potential search for a new school bus company as the current company is embroiled in a nearly-two-week-old strike with its drivers.  Mayor Jorge Elorza said yesterday that if the strike isn't resolved by Friday, the city would submit three requests for proposals: one to replace First Student, another to lease a fleet of buses only, and a third to hire a management company to oversee drivers, but not to provide buses.  Elorza said it's not fair that schoolchildren are being used as collateral for a private dispute.
