Caucus Calls For Newport Council To Select Mayor

(Newport, RI)  --  A new mayor is set to be selected by the Newport City Council on Wednesday.  The Newport City Clerk's office says the council-elect of the city will meet for the purpose of informally electing a mayor and vice chairman of the council for the 2018-2020 term after a caucus was called by Councilor Jamie Bova.  The clerk's office says Bova has indicated she has the four votes from fellow councilors necessary to be named mayor.  The city charter qualifies at-large councilors to serve as mayor.  Councilwoman Jeanne-Marie Napolitano received the most votes among at-large candidates in this month's election.
