Fane Tower Ordinance Heading To Providence Mayor's Desk

(Providence, RI)  --  The Providence City Council is giving its final approval for a zoning change to allow the 46-story Fane Tower to be built and it would become the tallest building in Rhode Island.  Nine councilors approved, five said "nay" and Council President David Salvatore abstained at a special meeting on Tuesday.  The measure now goes to the desk of Mayor Jorge Elorza, who said yesterday that he plans to veto it if the New York developer behind the Fane Tower doesn't agree to demands he included in a statement issued on Monday.  Rhode Island Senate President Dominick Ruggerio and House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello issued a letter to Elorza yesterday strongly encouraging him to sign the zoning change ordinance.
