(Jamestown, RI)  --  An East Bay police officer is receiving national recognition for jumping into frigid waters last month to save a man.  Jamestown policeman Nathaniel Schaffer has been named Officer of the Month by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund for the month of December.  Schaffer jumped into Narragansett Bay on December 6th after a man had jumped in and became unresponsive; both were treated for hypothermia.  Schaffer and others who were recognized for their actions last year will be honored at a special awards ceremony in Washington, DC later this year.
