Bills Protective Of Reproductive Health Care Introduced

(Providence, RI)  --  A day after Governor Gina Raimondo urged lawmakers to make this the year to codify women's access to reproductive health care, relevant legislation was filed in the state House and Senate.  Representative Edith Ajello and Senator Gayle Goldin introduced the Reproductive Health Act, previous versions of which were filed in 2017 and 2018.  The act would codify the current state of the law on reproductive rights in Rhode Island based on Roe v. Wade.  The two legislators say they're pushing for passage of their bill to protect Rhode Islanders in the case of any federal rollback of rights, noting the Supreme Court is conservative-leaning and claiming that the current president and U.S. Senate leader are opposed to reproductive freedom.
