DID YOU MISS THIS NIKE AD DURING THE OSCARS?

While everyone was tuned into the Academy Awards, Nike used the ceremony to debut a new ad featuring some of the top female athletes around. Nike’s commercial,"Dream Crazier," is narrated by Serena Williams and includes gymnast Simone Biles, snowboarder Chloe Kim,and members of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team, among others, as it calls out gender-based double standards.

“If we show emotion, we’re called dramatic. If we want to play against men, we’re nuts. And if we dream of equal opportunity, delusional,” Williams narrates as the ad begins, showing clips of women athletes.

The ad’s message is about taking back the word “crazy” and using it to define our dreams. In the commercial, Williams tells us things that were once considered “crazy,” like a woman running a marathon, coaching an NBA team, and “winning 23 grand slams, having a baby, and then coming back for more” - which is exactly what Williams did.

The commercial concludes with Williams saying, “So if they want to call you crazy, fine. Show them what crazy can do.”
