ACLU Says Woonsocket Will Stop Withholding Grants From Agency

(Woonsocket, RI)--The Rhode Island American Civil Liberties Union says a settlement has been reached involving Woonsocket and a domestic violence agency.The ACLU claims the city unlawfully withheld critically-needed grant funds from Sojourner House and retaliated against the agency after it petitioned other government organizations for help in resolving the dispute over the funds.Under a consent order filed in federal court, Woonsocket has agreed to formally withdraw its suspension of Sojourner from participating in a community development block grant initiative and will pay 35-thousand dollars in grants that had been awarded.
