Betsy Devos Is Grilled By Congress Over Special Olympics Cuts

Education Secretary Betsy Devos is defending plans to cut nearly 18-million dollars to Special Olympics.

Devos told lawmakers that Special Olympics is an awesome organization that has a lot of support from private individuals and groups. She said during a hearing of the House education appropriations subcommittee they had to make some difficult decisions to save the government money.

In 2017 Special Olympics' received 110 million in revenue. Most of that, nearly 80 million, came from individuals and corporations. Wisconsin CongressmanMark Pocanasked Devos if she knew how many children would be affected by the cut. Devos said she didn't. Pocan told her it would be 272-thousand kids.

Devos has to decided where to make cuts that add up to seven billion dollars, due to budgets.
