Obamas Reveal Slate Of Netflix Programming

In case you missed it, Barack and Michelle Obama have revealed the first slate of projects from their production company Higher Ground Productions coming to Netflix. They have seven projects of both scripted and unscripted series, documentaries and films coming to the streaming service in the next few years.

“We created Higher Ground to Harness the power of storytelling. That’s why we couldn’t be more excited about these projects,” writes the former President in a statement. “Touching on issues of race and class, democracy and civil rights, and much more, we believe each of these productions won’t just entertain, but will educate, connect and inspire us all.”

Here’s some of what they have coming to Netflix:

  • “American Factory,” a Sundance award-winning documentary about a Chinese billionaire who opens a new factory in the Midwest in an abandoned General Motors plant. Directed by Steven Bognar and Julie Reichert.
  • “Crip Camp,” a feature-length doc about a movement-inspiring summer camp for disabled teens.
  • “Bloom,” a drama anthology series that takes place post-WWII that “depicts barriers faced by women and by people of color in an era marked by hurdles but also tremendous progress.”
  • “Fifth Risk,” a non-fiction series based on Michael Lewis’original book, about “the unheralded work done by everyday heroes guiding our government and safeguarding our nation.”
