Trump Urges Vote Against Tribal Land Bill Opposed By RI

(Washington, DC)--A bill was pulled from the U.S. House floor yesterday which could lead to a new casino in Taunton, Massachusetts. The bill would re-establish sovereignty of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe's Massachusetts land, which was taken away after Taunton residents sued to stop the tribe from going through with previous casino plans.House leaders still plan on calling for a vote, but not through a rules process that would require two-thirds passage after President Trump called the law a "special interest casino bill."Rhode Island leaders have argued against the bill claiming, among other things, that a Taunton casino will hurt the Ocean State financially.Congressman William Keating, who introduced the Mashpee bill, said yesterday that Trump railed against it because of his well-documented alliance with the lobbyist for Rhode Island casinos.
