Diver Sees Garbage During The Deepest Solo Dive On Record

A diver has delivered some bad news that, hopefully, will make people think.

A retired naval officer who just completed the deepest solo dive in human history says he found garbage at the deepest point on Earth.Victor Vescovo of Texas this month used a submarine to head to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean. He made it down to a depth of nearly 36-thousand feet to what's known as Challenger Deep. There he discovered what could be four new species of crustaceans. He also made some less-thrilling discoveries, quite a bit of plastic, candy wrappers and more garbage.

Vescovo's dive was filmed for the Discovery Channel as part of an effort to explore the deepest parts of the world's oceans.
